The library serves all school students and staff. Our aim is to assist in the development of our students as skilful independent learners and readers, adept in their use of information, with a passion for learning and reading. Resources are provided to support teaching and learning in an inclusive environment, addressing the diverse needs of the whole school community.
The design of our library is unique: a spacious area on two floors. A suite of 30 computers is situated on the first floor and print resources are on the ground floor. Sixth form students may use the first floor throughout the day and all students may access the computers before and after school.
The library is open from 08.00 until 16.30, Monday to Thursday and 08.00 until 16.00 every Friday, during term time. Students are served by Ms Parr, Librarian and Ms Freeling, Library Assistant.
Our online catalogue, ‘Oliver’ enables students to search for books and recommended websites either in school or from home. Information about borrowing, books, events, book lists etc. can be found on Oliver’s ‘News’ page.
Reading for learning and pleasure
Library staff encourage students to read, read, read! Evidence links reading for pleasure and educational attainment not only in English but in all subjects. There are social and health benefits to be gained too, from increased empathy to reduced stress. We therefore support our students with reading suggestions, books list and activities. Drop Everything and Read, the Ealing Teen Read and Excelsior Award are just some of the events we participate in.
