Fantastic GCSE Results!
We are absolutely delighted to announce a fantastic set of GCSE results this year with over 60% of students achieving a good pass in both English and mathematics. Commenting on the results, headteacher Arwel Jones said:
“Congratulations to students and teachers on an excellent set of GCSE results. Despite an unprecedented year of national upheaval in the qualification system, with new GCSEs being sat for the very first time, students deserve full credit for the excellent results achieved this summer. The reformed GCSEs are harder than their predecessors and have more content. Despite this, there have been a large number of students achieving exceptional results with 18 students achieving at least one of the new top grade 9s and 49 students achieving a total of 173 GCSEs at grade 8 or 9 (the equivalent of the old A* grade). However, all students are part of our success and each and every student achieved at least one GCSE pass with 99% of students achieving at least five passes.
Our Ebacc results continue to be strong (top 3% nationally in 2016 and 2017) and this is once again well above the national average at 35%.The Ebacc accreditation is gained when students achieve a good pass in two science subjects, in geography or history, in a Modern Foreign Language and in both English and mathematics.
We would like to congratulate all of our students on these results. We are immensely proud of their hard work, effort and achievements, supported by an incredible teaching staff. We look forward to welcoming our former Year 11 students into our highly successful Sixth Form, where results this year at A Level are once again well within the top 10% in England for Value Added. We are excited to be starting what we know will be another successful school year!”
