Posted on 14th SepCongratulations to our Year 11 students as they receive their GCSE results, achieved in the most challenging of years faced in modern times. Over 70% of our students achieved a good pass in both English and mathematics and the progress made by our students was well above average. The results are a testament of the hard work and perseverance of our students throughout their school career and we are delighted to be able to celebrate their well-deserved success.
Headteacher, Arwel Jones, said: “We are exceptionally proud of the outstanding achievements of all our students who have worked so hard to achieve their goals. The results are a strong reflection of the excellent efforts of students and staff at the school.”
After a week of extraordinary developments in relation to this year’s examination results, at both A Level and GCSE, the government eventually allowed the school’s Centre Assessed Grades (CAGs) to be the basis of this summer’s results. Examination Boards have additionally generated calculated grades for every student using an algorithm and the final grade awarded for our Year 11 (and Year 13 students who received results last week) is the highest of either the CAG or calculated grade in each subject.
Despite the difficulties presented by lockdown and a delay to leavers’ celebrations, this year group should be rightly proud of their significant successes, both as individuals and collectively. We now look forward to welcoming many of the year group back to the Brentside Sixth Form when the school fully re-opens in September.
