Modern Foreign Languages

Effective communication is the way of the world. At Brentside High School we aim to ensure that teaching and learning in MFL reflects this. Our goal is to foster a passion for language learning in each student so that they may go out into the world with the skills to effectively communicate with whomever they choose.

All students in Key Stage 3 study either French or Spanish, according to their form group, and the majority continue their study to GCSE level. Students have 5 lessons per fortnight in which they develop skills in listening, reading, speaking and writing in the target language. Our mission is to foster a love for language learning for practical communication purposes as well as developing an understanding of grammatical concepts and the way in which language works. We aim to take as many students as possible through to studying at Key Stage 5.
